On March 29, 2011, we were blessed with the arrival of our beautiful, identical
twin girls. We were very excited for this event, especially since it was
preceded by a 5 week hospital stay for me (and pretty much for Ches, too, since
he spent every night there with me).

Now we are trying to navigate the waters of parenthood. There is no amount
of mental preparation one can do to get ready for a new baby, let alone two
babies! I am creating this blog in order to share the experiences, but more
importantly, as a type of diary to capture all the moments I fear I will forget
if left up to just my brain to remember!

First Sounder's Game with the Girls

After years of bugging me, er...I mean patiently asking, I finally agreed to go to a Seattle sporting event with Ches in the summer of 2013. Granted, he was aiming for a Mariner's game, but I felt a soccer game would be more entertaining (and he ultimately conceded since either venue would have beer). Little did we know, we ended up becoming serious Sounder fans. I mean, who could resist the singing, the cheering, the blast of the fire at the ECS goal, the beat of the drums. We were instantly smitten.

As we watched the Sounder's games at home, coupled with the girls growing interest after their successful toddling around with soccer balls at the fall Soccer Squirts sessions, they had no choice but to accept fandom. Since that season was coming to an end, we knew we would wait till the Spring 2014 season to introduce the girls to the roaring stadium of rave green.

After securing tickets for a nice midday, late spring game, the anticipation was palpable by all in the Wilson clan. The girls were happy with their Sounder's jerseys, but felt they could still show more green & blue pride, so we ventured to the fabric shop to choose the most appropriate tulle colors for custom tutus. Mother's Day night was spent with the man I love tying semi-measured pieces of tulle to elastic. Our efforts were well rewarded with more than just the smiley giggles of the girls.

After sharing the ferry ride with our friends who bought tickets in the same section, we braved the long walk to the stadium with a quick stop for doughy goodness from Piroshki's. Ches had mentioned to the girls earlier that morning that there may be a chance some people may want to take pictures of them since they were undeniably adorable in their jersey/tutu combo. So it was not a shock that it was less than 10 minutes of walking in the city before the first "Can I ask you a weird question: can I take a picture of your daughters?" was heard.

We wanted to get there early so we could watch the stadium fill. We did not expect the wake of "Oh my goodness!" and "They are too cute!" that followed us everywhere we went. We didn't even make it up the first set of steps before a guy said "You know you guys are famous, right? Everyone is talking about the girls with tutus!" This was further confirmed when Ches went with Avery during the first half for a potty/food break. The concession stand worker asked "Where is the other one? I heard there were two!"

The girls did so amazing and had such a fun time. They cheered, they sang, they held their scarves up, and were able to catch some well deserved shut eye during the game (as this was one of the very few days we have attempted to skip nap). They must have been tired to sleep through 2 goals each with the blasts of fire and fireworks! Which brings me to the awesomeness of the game itself! Four goals to zero against the then undefeated conference rival Real Salt Lake. A nice top off to an already great day of new family fun. Avery even asked if we were going to another Sounders game on the following day. Think there will be more twin tutu cuteness in the future...Ches has already put in an order for blue and orange tutus come fall!
